Certified Family Support Specialist
Parents and caregivers of a child or young adult with a mental, emotional, behavioral or co-occurring disorder learn how to advocate for their loved one, how to provide support to one another, and how to make their way through schools systems, juvenile justice systems, and foster care, among others. Certified Family Support Specialists (CFSS’s) are specially trained parents and caregivers who have found the treatment and resources needed to build resiliency and experience success in the home, school and community. Because of their life experience, Certified Family Support Specialists are in a unique position to provide peer support to other caregivers who are experiencing similar challenges. They can provide hope and support to other caregivers at a level beyond that of clinical staff.
Certified Family Support Specialists complete training recognized by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services on how to assist other caregivers in fostering resiliency in their child.
