WRAP II FACILITATOR REFRESHER TRAINING:

To improve skills and stay informed regarding effective approaches to WRAP II Facilitation continued learning is imperative. It is highly recommended by the Copeland Center for Wellness and Recovery that WRAP II Facilitators attend a Refresher Course at least once every two years to stay up to date on developments and best practices. WRAP II Facilitators that do not attend Refreshers every two years are not facilitating under the Copeland Center’s “best practices”.

The WRAP II Facilitator Refresher Training is a 3-day interactive course developed to sharpen and expand facilitation skills to further engage groups in the Wellness Recovery Action Planning.

Pre-Readings are required and are emailed to registrants prior to the training. You must have completed WRAP II Facilitator training and submit the certificate to be accepted for this training. This course also includes 1-hour training on “Values and Ethics” which can be used towards CPRS recertification; the total course offers 24 continuing education hours.

INTRODUCTION TO PEER SUPPORT (FORMALLY PEER COUNSELING) TRAINING:

Introduction to Peer Support gives nonjudgmental, non-directive support to a peer and is provided by a peer instead of a mental health professional. Findings consistently show that Peer Support reduces hospitalizations, use of professional services, increases knowledge and coping skills, self-esteem, and confidence. In addition, there is a greater sense of well-being and of being in control and stronger social networks and supports.

This 2-day course teaches those working in the Peer-to-Peer field how to support other peers using active listening and peer engagement skills. It is empowering for attendees and supports the peer model of recovery.  Active role plays and feedback sessions allows attendees to learn new skills or polish existing skills to communicate with others in a deliberate, mindful manner.

Pre-Readings are required and are emailed to registrants prior to the training.   This course also includes 1-hour training on “Ethics” which can be used towards CPRS re-certification; the total course offers 15 continuing education hours.

Building Recovery & Individual Dreams & Goals through Education & Support (BRIDGES):   Facilitator/Teacher Training:

Building Recovery & Individual Dreams & Goals through Education & Support (BRIDGES) is a self-help program that provides education and support to and by people with mental health conditions.  There are two parts to the program: courses on recovery and support groups. Classes and support groups are taught and facilitated by peers that have undergone an intense five-day training.

The education component of the program includes courses designed for consumers in either community or inpatient settings. Courses offer detailed information on mental illness, mental health treatment, self-help skills and the philosophy of recovery. The goal is to empower students to take an active role in their treatment and recovery. Classes include discussions and exercises to help students apply the information. There are no tests or grades. Student’s graduate based on having participated in at least 70% of the classes.

Consumers who contract with TMHCA to teach BRIDGES courses are reimbursed to teach. This represents meaningful work that taps one’s abilities. Skills and confidence gained in teaching BRIDGES courses have been used as a springboard for further employment opportunities.

The other part of the program consists of ongoing support groups. BRIDGES support group meetings provide a structured way for individuals to work with one another to strengthen coping skills and deal with the realities of living with a psychiatric disability.  These meetings supply the emotional glue that enables people to ease individual and group feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, or guilt. The Principles of Support and Emotional Stages of Recovery provide individuals with a foundation for building and maintaining a healthy, happy life.

Support group facilitators are volunteers. Giving of oneself raises self-confidence, and helps facilitators strengthen their own social support. Facilitators are encouraged to conduct a support group twice a   month for at least a year.

The first 3 days of the training are the Instructor/Teacher Training (24.0 CEH’s); the last 2 days of the training are the Facilitator/Support Group Training (16.0 CEH’s).  This course can be used towards CPRS re-certification.
