Overdose deaths among youth and young adults have increased significantly in recent years. Synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, are the most common drugs involved in overdose deaths. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy has designated fentanyl combined with xylazine as an emerging threat to the US. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) will highlight evidence-based prevention approaches available for individuals, communities, states, tribes, and jurisdictions to address the evolving opioid epidemic. The Biden-Harris Administration’s whole-of-government approach is working to save lives, protect public health, and improve the public safety of our communities.
